Trip Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
You will be met and transferred from your hotel to Wilson airport for a safari briefing. Our morning flight departs at 9.00 a.m. and arrives in Nanyuki at approximately 9.30 a.m. Your professional safari riding guide will meet you there and transfer you to our private-canvas mobile camp arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon is spent settling-in, followed by a short ride or game drive. Riding distance: 5-10 kms
Day 2 – South Camp, Lolldaiga Conservancy
Magical morning and afternoon rides across the grasslands of Lolldaiga, with its’ impressive ancient cedar forests and dramatic scenery. Zebra, impala, giraffe and possibly buffalo favour this section of Laikipia. We may head down in the evening to a large dam to enjoy the plethora of birdlife and possibly a rare glimpse of a leopard hunting along the water’s edge. Riding distance: 15-20 kms
Day 3 – North Camp, Lolldaiga Conservancy
Our first full day in the saddle takes us in a northerly direction up over the saddle with incredible views way off into the dry-country of the nomads. Thereafter we descend a steep escarpment and enter a totally different habitat. Cedar forest gives way to acacia woodland, indigenous olive trees and generally a drier ecosystem. Here we will encounter the local endemic species such as gerenuk, Grevy zebra and oryx. In the late evening we may go and explore by 4×4 safari vehicle. Riding distance: 15-20 kms
Day 4 – North Camp, Lolldaiga Conservancy
Morning and afternoon rides or drives exploring the stunning area which is home to elephant, cheetah and lion.
Baboon rocks and the steep hills of Enasoit, provide the ideal opportunity to walk and enjoy ‘sundowners’ in the late evenings. With the exception of our own private-canvas camp, there is no other settlement in the local vicinity. The sense of solitude and wilderness is heavenly. Riding distance: 15-20 kms
Day 5 – Dam Camp, Borana Conservancy
An early start, for today is the longest ride of the safari as we head due east across some breathtaking game country. Several opportunities for long canters with the game, over open plains, crossing dry river beds, up through the rolling Olenaishu hills, through Fox Three ranger post and into black rhino country. An epic day with the chance to see Jackson’s hartebeest, warthog, hyena, eland, waterbuck and other spices too. Riding distance: 30-35 kms
Day 6 – Dam Camp, Borana Conservancy
This part of the ride is probably the best to locate the solitary and shy black rhino, wild dog, lion, jackal and the majestic kudu. Morning and afternoon rides or drives. We may decide to have a bush-breakfast and at night, go out with a spotlight in search of the nocturnal animals. Our camp is situated on a small dam, the only water in miles, and thus providing continuous wildlife activity, both day and night. Riding distance 15-20 kms
